It’s not easy to provide a definitive list of services and prices as dogs are conscious, sentient and unique. Their behaviour issues reflect this complexity, however these are some of the standard packages I offer:

Services I Offer

Standard Behaviour Package

£150

The Standard Behaviour Package can help you to address unwanted behaviour and common issues. This package gives us time to explore the behaviours, triggers, and come up with a plan and teach techniques to help resolve these issues.

This plan includes:

An initial phone consultation (free) to help me understand the issues.

Three in house visits, where I demonstrate and supervise you practicing techniques

A written behaviour plan

A clicker training device

Luna, a 4 year old cocker-poo, would steal items and become aggressive when her owners attempted to retrieve them. The standard behaviour package allowed me to work with her owners, understand the triggers for her behaviours, set out a plan and teach her owners the techniques to overcome her resource guarding issues.

Hemingway, a large Wire-haired German Pointer, was showing reactivity towards other dogs and some people. This approach helped Hemingway’s owners to understand his behaviour and learn how to create a safe environment for him to reduce reactive behaviour.

Location

Derby Dog Behaviour is based in Littleover, Derby, and my services are available to locations circa 1hr/30 miles of this location.

This makes me perfectly placed to help dogs in the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire areas of the UK.

Dog Training vs. Dog Behaviour

I love to see a well-trained dog, working closely with their owner, whether this is in a professional capacity, such as herding, search and rescue, guide dogs and medical support. The amazing abilities shown annually at Crufts in the agility or obedience rings, or on some amazing talent show are simply stunning.

However – not all dogs are in a position to be trained to such elevated levels, and some behaviours may be the result of something else going on. Despite what some popular TV programs will tell you, dogs don't behave badly. Dogs behave naturally, in response to their environment, DNA, breeding, a history of learning and their internal emotional and physical state. Dogs don’t have the emotional filters that we do and it’s clear that happy, secure dogs, behave very differently to those experiencing pain, fear or vulnerability.

It is my firm belief that you cannot ‘obedience’ your way out of a problem that has it’s origin in anxiety, fear, distress or illness. An anxious dog might be discouraged from growling, by any number of means. However, if the dog learns that it is not OK to growl, have we actually understood and addressed the reasons why the dog growls in the first place? If not, then who can say what the dog might do in future? If a dog is anxious when left alone, are we helping his anxiety by confining him to a crate?

My approach to dog behaviour change focusses on the why, not the what.

Here at Derby Dog Behaviour I specialise in providing personalised, positive, compassionate and effective solutions to help improve your dog's behaviour. I believe in creating a stress-free experience for you and your dog, and my approach is rooted in kindness and science.
